Some Thoughts on Finishing What You Start … Plus a Big Announcement!
For a long time I thought there was something wrong with me. I’d dive into a new project with gusto and grand plans, and then a few days in, I’d get distracted and … you know the rest. Please tell me you know the rest and I’m not the only one! Put simply, I get bored easily and find it hard to finish what I start. And I’ve been this way pretty much my entire life.
While this can definitely be a flaw (just ask my husband—and my college advisors, 5 different majors at 3 different schools in the first 2 years of college), it’s also part of the way God designed me.
“One of the things I love about God is He is always fresh, He’s always doing something new.”
As someone who is learning how to embrace (and harness) my love of fresh, new things, projects etc, it’s not surprising that one of the things I love about God is HE is always fresh, HE’S always doing something new. Isaiah 43:19 is one of my favorite verses: “For I am about to do something NEW. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.”
In his kindness, God has allowed me to step into a new season and fulfill a dream I’ve had for a long time. One I had kind of forgotten about, but he hadn’t. Thankfully, God never forgets our dreams! And he always brings things around at the proper time.
We live in a world that likes us to announce everything we’re doing loudly for the entire world to see and critique on social media. But God has been using a quiet season, where I’ve been settling into an entirely new role, to breathe life into an old dream. He’s been making space for me to try something new. And I’m so excited to announce that my next book is coming soon (November 2025) and it’s a children’s book!
“I’m so excited to announce that my next book is coming soon—and it’s a children’s book! ”
Here’s just a little peek behind the scenes of my book writing process. I once read a quote from Annie F. Downs that I really relate to. She said, “When I write books, I don’t feel like my job is to create them out of thin air but to ‘find’ them. The books I’m meant to write are already sitting on a heavenly shelf, and my job is to find each one, almost like mining for treasure as God directs me, whispers to me, and brings themes and stories to my mind.”
That’s what the last year has looked like for me as this new book took shape. It started with a conversation between me and my daughter, and it took flight from there. It’s been a partnership with the Holy Spirit, and an exercise in letting my imagination run free. I honestly had the most fun writing it, and I can’t wait for you to see/read it! If you don’t already, follow me on Facebook or Instagram because I will be on the socials in the coming weeks sharing some videos and sneak peeks.
In the meantime, I’d love to hear what God is doing in your life? Has he been reviving old dreams, or giving you new ones? Drop a comment and tell me all about it.
